At Dirks Duckweed, our team is constantly researching and improving upon our sustainable approach to growing our Duckweed business. Our vertical farming systems are designed to not only run efficiently and effectively,  they are as environmentally mindful as is currently possible. 

Our solar panels are capable of providing 100% of the necessary power and our grey water & rain barrel tanks can provide 60% of the water required to run our indoor Duckweed farm.

Our vertical farming system (Figure 1) is comprised of vertical racks, each containing four to five trays housing up to 160 square feet of Duckweed. Our goal is to scale up to approx. 6800 square feet of Duckweed within the next year.

Our Duckweed drying system (Figure 2) is also a sustainable design model. It utilizes a great resource we have in abundance here in Southern California, the sun. As our operation grows, so will our drying systems.
